2010 HOLLAND AMERICA TOUR SPECIALS
Ways to Save above and beyond the published discounted fares:
Select a tour departure which cruises from Vancouver BC. Typically, it will save you an additional $50-$100pp.
Plus, airfares are typically lower on average by $50-$100 ea.
Sail in an outside picture window cabin not a verandah cabin. A very easy decision, if you study the cruise itinerary.
You spend so much time
in the different ports, you have no time to enjoy the verandah! Save on average $500-600/cabin!
Travel in late May or late August/Early September. Typically, the weather is clear/dry, the animals are migrating so it’s far more interesting,
it’s not as crowded and it’s the lowest pricing of the year!
Take advantage of arranging your own air arrangements or utilizing frequent flyer tickets and save $$$

Most seekers found no gold at all. But the
prospect of sudden riches was not all that mattered. For many of those who made
the incredible journey, the Klondike represented escape from the humdrum,
the adventure of a new frontier. Today, gold seekers still visit Dawson City.
#2. The Yukon
River is the longest river in Yukon & Alaska. Third longest river in North America, flowing northwest
from the Coastal Range mountains of northern British Columbia, through the
Yukon Territory and Alaska to the Bering Sea. Its overall length is 3185
kilometers (km), with 1149 km within Canadian borders. The watershed's total
drainage area is 840 000 sq. km (323 800 sq. km in Canada) and it discharges
195 cubic kilometers of water per year.
During the Klondike Gold
Rush the Yukon River was one of the principal means of transportation.
Paddle-wheel riverboats continued to ply the river until the 1950s, when the
Klondike Highway was completed. This
tour includes a 102 mile cruise from Dawson City to Eagle, Alaska.
All
fares are per person based on double occupancy, cruise only. Rates are capacity controlled and subject to
change. Single and triple/quad fares are
available by request.

14-DAY HOLLAND AMERICA LINE - AMSTERDAM
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
These unique features of this itinerary are what will make it so extra special:
#1.Sailing all the way into Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. Anchorage sits at the base of the Chugach Mountains along the coast of Cook Inlet in Southcentral Alaska. You can see the Chugach, Kenai, Talkeetna, Tordrillo, Aleutian and Alaska mountain ranges from Anchorage. Mount McKinley, 130 miles (208 km) north of downtown, can be seen on clear days. This 20,320-foot peak is the tallest mountain in North America. This is the only cruise itinerary which gives you the opportunity to see and visit Denali as a shore excursion!
The Anchorage Museum has an extraordinary permanent collection depicting 10,000 years of Alaska history - Native subsistence lifestyles, European exploration, Russian America, and contemporary times. View art of the North.
#2.
Visiting Homer, considered the favorite vacation spot of Alaskan’s. A quaint town nestled on the shore of
Kachemak Bay offering breathtaking views of glaciers, mountains and wildlife.
Homer is known to many as the 'Cosmic Hamlet by the Sea,' but it was made
famous in Tom Bodett's tales as 'The End of the Road.'
While in or around Homer you could see moose grazing, a black bear crossing the
road, puffins, seabirds, soaring eagles, sea otters, porpoises, killer whales,
porcupine, harbor seal, beluga whales and more... A drive on any of
Homer's back roads or a morning boat tour on the bay will make wildlife viewing
easy and enjoyable.
Probably one of my favorite excursion’s, is a ride on the Danny J across
Kachemak Bay to the world-famous Gull Island. This bird rookery is the
nesting ground for eight species of seabirds. Eagles are known to disturb
the birds, stealing eggs and young. You can often observe flocks joining
forces to defend their nests. Some species that can be seen here include
black legged kittiwakes, red faced cormorants, gulls, murres, and the
ever-popular puffins. This narrated optional cruise provides you with bird
information and identification as well as great photo opportunities. Once on
the Island, you can wander the boardwalk, stop in the Saltry for lunch and view
the beautiful setting enjoyed by many local artist.
#3. Visitors come to Kodiak to experience a wildness that is unmatched in few places on the earth. They come to step away from civilization and rediscover nature in its purest, un-ruined form. It is a place to slow down to the tempo and timbre of wilderness, to appreciate silence broken only by the eagle or loon. It is a place to rest weary eyes and quiet nerves with the motion of water and color of trees. And it is a place where the designs of man yield completely to the demands of the environment.
While
many large animals in North America find their way to the endangered species
list, the Kodiak brown bear is a success story in the management of
wildlife. The Kodiak bear is healthy and productive throughout the
archipelago and its population is actually increasing. In fact, the Kodiak
bear population is at an historic high. According to Alaska Department of
Fish & Game estimates, there are 3,500 bears on the Kodiak Archipelago. The
vast majority of these bears live in the protected lands of the Kodiak National
Wildlife Refuge, which comprises two-thirds of the island.
The Kodiak bear is a subspecies of the brown or grizzly bear. Brown bears
migrated to the Kodiak Archipelago from mainland Alaska about 12,000 years ago.
As the climate warmed at the end of the last ice age, the sea level rose and
the bears became an isolated population. They live exclusively on the islands
of the Kodiak Archipelago.
Bear-viewing is one of the most popular activities on Kodiak Island. The best time to see a Kodiak bear is during July, August and September and the best way to do so is in the company of a knowledgeable outfitter. Most local air taxis offer half-day viewing trips. Bears are rarely seen on the road system, so if seeing a Kodiak brown bear is an important component of your Alaska experience, plan ahead, select an outfitter, and book your bear-viewing experience several months in advance.
If you plan on only visiting Alaska, this is an excellent choice for a memorable comprehensive cruise vacation.
All fares are per person based on double occupancy. Rates are capacity controlled and subject to change. Third & Fourth person fares available upon request. FREE on selected sailings!
